Edit #8: All About Oscars Sunday <3
the power of a good party, Kate Hudson's wardrobe & finally feeling better
This past month has turned out to be one of the busiest I’ve had.. ever. And between the flights and early call times, my immune system caught up with me. I’m so thankful I haven’t been sick sick, just run down enough that my energy was low, and I had to conserve it for some big shoots. I missed my edit last week (I know you were devastated) but I’m so happy to be back. I have so much to fill you in on.
First off, if you don’t have an Oura ring yet.. you are missing out. I cannot tell you how much the ring has helped me get more in touch with my body. And not in a way that feels judgy about my lack of exercise or demanding about my lack of sleep, but just in the fact that I’m getting so much more information about myself, and when has that ever been a bad thing? The last few days was the first time I got this message:
I don’t know how it knows this, but it does. It blows my mind it knows me this well. I’m also one of those people that tend to push through the sickness and pretend I’m fine so then I never actually rest and then take forever to get better. This forced me to. And I’m so glad it did. I needed a little time. I have so many big things coming up and I want to be my best. If you’re interested in the ring, you can also use your HSA account to purchase. It’s the best investment. Let’s talk about.. THE OSCARS! AH <3
It was my first time ever going to the Academy Awards, and although I wasn’t on the Oscars red carpet, we did the adjacent Elton Johns AIDS Foundation viewing party — the next biggest party in Hollywood on the same night. It’s normally the first or second place people stop after the Oscars or Vanity Fair parties. It really was a dream come true to be out there. The energy in LA is just different on awards show days.
This has to be one of my favorite dresses I’ve ever worn. Not only was the shape so cool and unique, it was so flattering, comfortable and it’s SO affordable. Don’t tell anyone but Bardot is my secret weapon - they make the coolest and best-fitting, high- quality dresses at a fraction of the price. (I get asked about my rotating wardrobe a lot, I’ll do a whole separate edit on how I do that.)
The EJAF Carpet was 8 hours long.. a record. The carpet opens BEFORE & AFTER The Oscars — before for the celebs to find their seats, then a hiatus while everyone watches the show, then the carpet reopens for *hopefully* the Oscar winners to come by and then of course all the other celebs from their watch parties. My favorite interview was Walton Goggins - which if you’re watching The White Lotus you know what a big deal that is. He is daddy. And he’s just as charming in real life. He said he’s loving seeing everyone’s reaction to his character, he didn’t know a fuck up would be this lovable. *swoon*
What was so special about this event is this time we got to go inside — iHeart had a few seats at a table, and imagine walking into a beautiful tent with white draped linens, hundreds of table spread across the room. I was in line for the bathroom next to Heidi Klum. I walked out behind Chrishell and Chris Appleton. I saw Nikki Glaser dance by. It’s so wild to see so many of your faves interacting in one room. I live for it.

The big moment of the party came after the Oscars had wrapped… Chappell Roan took the stage and performed a full set. I was worried I I would miss it because the carpet opened up again but luckily the Elton John Gods smiled upon me.
I’ve never seen Chappell perform live, and I was truly blown away. Her stage presence is the perfect mix of personable and larger than life. It reminds me of Taylor in that way. They feel like your friend yet are the most mesmerizing global entertainer. Chappell’s red hair flying across the stage, the way she moves and bops so easily, the ad-libs between the songs. Encouraging us to “free the nipple, Elton would love it!” And “learn the dance! don’t be too cool!”
She told the story of her hit song Pink Pony Club which I hadn’t heard before. The Pink Pony Club is an actual establishment and was close by where the party was taking place. She said the first time she went inside was the feeling some people described about going to church. She saw the lights, the stage, the fog, the girls in go-go boots (she wanted to be a dancer so bad), and it was a true spiritual experience. The Pink Pony Club changed something in her that day.
She then invited Elton to join her. There was something so powerful about seeing the iconic Elton John on stage next to her. His two teenage sons in the audience. His husband David Furnish smiling on. Chappell putting a pink cowboy hat on Elton. Both of them looking at each other singing the lyrics. Dancing around stage. Knowing what he’s done for the LGBTQIA community, for the AIDS crisis, for helping an entire generation feel seen and accepted and safe. And here’s Chappell - redefining what it means to be a pop star, to be queer, to set boundaries. Two generations of leaders. Of artists. Of making change simply by believing in themselves and creating art. Ugh I have chills all over again. My nipples are hard as I type. I think Elton John would have wanted that.
Before her set ended she also covered Elton’s “your song” which, in my opinion, is one of the greatest songs of all time. She joked about how nervous she was to sing Elton in front of Elton. I bet she’ll remember that moment forever.
Side tangent, one of my favorite covers of that song is Ewan McGregor in Moulin Rouge with Nicole Kidman. If you’ve never seen it - do yourself a favor. That’s self care. Then read all the lore surrounding the film. It’s juicy.
Since being back in NYC, I’ve had some major shoots that I will recap for you next week when it’s clear to discuss. Think: the winners of a very popular reality show in Scotland & an artist whose album caused ~mayhem~ this past week. AH. It’s been wild.
As I’m writing this edit I’m on a plane to Austin for SXSW to cover our iHeartRadio Podcast Awards. I’ve never been to Austin during sx, so I’m planning on it being an experience. That’ll be in next weeks edit too. In the meantime, let’s get into some recs :D
To Watch:
If you’re not watching Running Point, you are missing out big time. It’s the cutest show on Netflix starring Kate Hudson as a woman in an affluent family who inherits an NBA team. Think succession but more fun. I was laughing out loud in certain parts. And Kate’s wardrobe?! I was so inspired. This was one of my favorite parts of the show — professional and sexy is always the vibe I go for. A few stand outs:
To Read:
Chelsea Handler is one of my all-time favorite celebrities for so many reasons. I’ve loved her since her Chelsea Lately days on E! News. I had the opportunity to interview her on a carpet one time in my life, and I was so nervous, it wasn’t my best and I didn’t get to ask her everything I wanted to. She was hilarious as usual answering the questions, throwing in her classic sarcastic quips. But when the camera’s cut.. she was so kind. so nice. gave me a little wink. God I love her.
I’ve read every book she’s put out and they never disappoint. I just got her new one and one of the first stories she tells is how Jane Fonda sent her an icy email one time to invite her over for dinner, in which she proceeded to tell her how she was being an asshole and that she needed to get her shit together. Chelsea said it made her appreciate her honest friends.
To Do:
Get drunk. I’m serious. I work almost all the time that I legit forget that my personality needs to have a wild night every now and again. My best friend Kev and I recently went on a date. We started at Mamo, went to my new favorite speakeasy Titsou at Fouquets and then ended at this bar called The Library in Tribeca. We ordered grilled cheeses that scalded my mouth. I woke up hungover but so happy. Do not underestimate the power of having fun, having real human connections and the hope that comes with a night that you don’t know who you’ll meet or how it’ll end. It’s important to party.
One last thought for your week ahead:
Singer and songwriter Kim Gordon on the power of going for it:
"People pay to see others believe in themselves."
See you next week! xx
